“Different Colours” OUT MAY 15 🫶🎨✨

I genuinely don’t know how to put this into words without sounding like I've fully lost the plot, but I’m self-publishing my first poetry book at eighteen. What started as random poems in my notes and little paragraphs from novels I tried to write, slowly turned into something bigger... and now in my very hands, I get to hold AN ACTUAL BOOK OF MINE??? WITH MY NAME ON IT AND EVERYTHING?!

This chapbook is split into four sections: The Soil, The Bloom, The Wilt, and The Wildflowers. Each one holds a different feeling, a different version of me. You can read it all the way through or just open a section and let it stand on its own. It is a mini collection of just twenty poems!

It’s honest, messy, and everything I felt but didn’t always know how to say. Grief, love, friendships, heartbreak, healing… all existing at once, in different colours.

“Different Colours” OUT MAY 15 🫶🎨✨

I love going to book launches so much, and today I got to see @samcermo launch his book "Abnormal Peripheries"! Honestly, Slovak and Czech performance art and their histories weren't something I ever really learnt much about at all, but it was super interesting to hear Sam talk about how certain artists, especially women (like Lauffová) have been pushed to the edges of history and kept subordinate, despite often playing central roles.

Pianka also put on an AMAZING performance! I don't know how you managed to walk on the tips of your toes for that long, though.... and on top of that, doing borderline Olympic-level acrobatics on a shopping trolley ?!?!? Starstruck...
(Also, free wine is always a plus lol)

"Little Oscar"

Even though Little Oscar is a fictional character, this poem was inspired by a real story I had seen. And I thought I'd share it on here along with a little reminder !

Childhood cancer might be rare, but it is still very real. Over 1,900 children in the UK are diagnosed each year. While writing this, I was thinking of the said child and the thousands of other children battling cancer everyday. It is a reminder of how important support, research, and awareness are.

In my own time, I have been supporting the amazing work of @skc365 and am in constant awe of the research they fund and the help they provide to families affected by neuroblastoma. To be clear... this is not a partnership. I wrote this poem after getting inspo from a story I had seen, and after that I just wanted to do my part in spreading a little light on this topic.

no. 6 | "Hands In The Soil" 🍃🫶

This is the sixth poem from my upcoming chapbook. It's about hobbies, but even more than that, it's about reclaiming the more quiet, "unimportant" things we love. I wrote it thinking about how easy it is to measure ourselves by productivity, by polish, or by how we're perceived, and how necessary it is to step outside that box and do something just because it makes you happy. And I think that is more than enough reason to do it.

I wanted this poem to be a reminder for myself that there is dignity in doing something slowly, imperfectly and for yourself. That joy doesn't need permission, and meaning isn't something we earn.

Anyway, I'll be sharing more from the book soonnn - keep a look out as these next few weeks are getting closer and closer to a potential release date! 👀
